Your Daily Dish to a Fit & Fabulous..Happy New Year!

For the next 5-days, I’ll be posting 5 daily tips to help you
achieve your Goals in 2014!

Happy New Year!

1.     Set Goals – You MUST set attainable goals. If your goal is to lose weight, keep in mind, the average person only loses approximately 2 pounds* a week.   Two pounds per week is a healthy weight loss.
*Thatt’s with a deficit of 500 - 1000 calories per day. Which means, you’ll need to cut out between 500-1000 calories per day.
2.     Stick to a Schedule -- If you prefer to work out early in the morning, then stick to a morning schedule. By creating a schedule that becomes routine, you create the healthy habit.  A workable routine is one you will be more likely to stick to it. If you like afternoon, evening or even late night workouts, it doesn't matter; just incorporate the time into your daily or weekly plan.
3.     No Cheat Days - Here is one everyone hates…I always say no cheat days, but I stress no cheat days when you're first starting out.  The best way to sabotage a new routine or resolution is to take an easy out.  My words of wisdom:  “Until you are firmly ensconced in a real routine, then you can have cheat days. Otherwise, it's a forgone conclusion that you will end up with more cheat days then workout days.”
4.     Don't Starve Yourself – Remember, first you’ll want to get your workout 'groove' going, so dieting and counting calories would be the least of you worries. If you're like me, starting a new workout regimen, and you haven't worked out since you were in your early 20's (that would have been during the Clinton administration), then you're primary goal should only be to create a routine (see point 1).   Do NOT create crazy eating habits at the start of your program.  Time will come when you are ready, willing and able to make major dietary changes to meet the needs of your new healthy lifestyle.
5.     Keep it Simple - Try to avoid trendy diets and foods that claim to be the new super weight loss. Those are gimmicks.  Your first step is to stay focused on a simple lifestyle change, the rest will come later. There’s no magic bullet to lose weight.  What took years to put on, will take some healthy choices and time to take off.  So, keep it simple enough for you to stay on track—think:  K.I.S.S.
Stop back for tomorrow’s updates—I’ll show you how slow and steady wins the race, and why a “phone-a-friend” could be vital to your success!  See you tomorrow!

The New Job Tebow should be offered

Recently it was announced that Tim Tebow was not going to make the cut as a Quarterback in the NFL, at least not with the New England Patriots.
Tim Tebow with his steadfast tenacity and pure desire then announced that he would continue to still seek another potential opportunity to fulfill his lifelong dream of being an NFL QB.
Problem being with the NFL being a closely guarded fraternity that it is. It does look like the dream for Tebow might  have run it's course.
There aren't many teams that will be reaching out to Tebow to man their sidelines to be master of the Clipboard let alone as the Starter of their offense. Which is sad to me but, not because of his ability or lack there of but; as we all read the offseason NFL police blotter we find a veritable laundry list of NFL stars on that blotter. I wonder if the NFL has considered this young man as some sort of liaison to the young men of this league in a potentially newly created position of "NFL Goodguy"
Tim Tebow would thrive in a position like this as would the young men coming into this league! I know that Tony Dungy had  a lot to do with the Mike Vick signing a few years back when he came back to NFL after a 2 year absence and prison sentence. Apparently it has worked well with Vick. He has apparently become and model citizen in the NFL.
Now Tebow hasn't lead that kind of life and it would appear that he has not ever lived a life which could have been construed as a troubled one.
With all of these of these young men entering the league and instantly becoming very wealthy but, not knowing, or for lack of a better term, not knowing how to act with all of that money and fame, becoming a non functioning member of society.
That's where Tebow would come in. The NFL should hire Tebow as a guide for the young men of this league and for the future young men of this league. He could become a younger fresher version of Dungy someone less of a fatherly  / coach figure and more as a guy who has some success in this league and hugely successful college career. He could teach these kids / young men some of the potential pratfalls in this lifestyle.
Tebow could teach these guys many things but, most of all he could teach these kids some humility. That's not to say these kids aren't humble but, I think he could coax some of them into becoming functioning members of this society and the society that is the NFL.
Hey Mr. Goodell are you listening? There is a guy out there who could someday replace you but, right now you should consider using  him as the quarterback of your franchise one in desperate need of some sort of guidance.
It may just result in one less Aaron Hernandez tomorrow and one less Aaron Hernandez could be a good thing and not just for the NFL.

How to deal with social media whiners while Pope Francis is on the line.

Stop me if you've heard this; People hate when you brag on FaceBook, "Geez you're on Facebook all the time!" "Can you please stop checking in at the gym?!?"
I could go on and on but, I will spare you.

If people bragging on fb bugs you then unfollow / unfriend them! If someone is finding it hard to deal with life and they feel as if fb or twitter is an outlet for what little of their own positivity they have, then so be it!  Let's leave well enough alone! I like to post on fb that I just finished a 5 mile run and how long it took me to run those 5 miles! If this truly annoys you, then go away!

In the same way that my "bragging" is getting under your online skin, your incessant whining about my positivity is just as annoying to me. If all of you Debbie Downers really bothered me then I would unfriend / unfollow you, but, alas I don't because it's social media! It is just an outlet!

Now I just heard a news report that  fb is causing depression to people who read all of these Braggarts' statuses / Tweets! SERIOUSLY?!?!? Social Media is causing depression?!?!?  What's next my positive lifestyle or general good feelings are making me too happy to ever be depressed ever again?!!?
Reread that last sentence and please tell me you see how ridiculous it is!
Just because I ran 5 miles, ate all of my veggies yesterday, served a holiday meal to the needy and now I am being considered for Beatification by Pope Francis; YOU SHOULD BE DEPRESSED! I mean how could your boring pathetic life ever be as good as mine?

You see; you are not depressed because my life is so glorious! You are not depressed because your team lost the big game, you are not depressed because you didn't eat your veggies and I did!
You are probably depressed because depression is an actual disease! It is and can be a debilitating insipid disease! With the potential to be very harmful to you and those around you.

So the next time you see me and tell me "WOW!" You're on FaceBook a lot! Don't be surprised if I turn around and say oh you must be on there a lot as well otherwise, how would you know that I post on there all of the time?
So try not to criticize others when you're doing the same thing in an a different way, that you may consider annoying.

So let's all please stop whining about how much you hate us braggarts on fb and twitter because maybe, just maybe,  you're annoying us with your bitching!

Let's get over ourselves! Social media isn't going anywhere! Just unfriend those of us that annoy you. We won't mind not seeing your boring and negative posts.
Besides Pope Francis is on the line, my asparagus is ready and doggonnitt, I need to go for a run!!

What I learned from last nights Super Bowl.....

What I learned last night;
The Superdome still doesn't have a backup generator? SERIOUSLY!?!?
Kissing the Prom Queen is still a rite of passage in America and that's JUST FUN!
I still don't like the Ravens.
And two more things;
1. Brothers do and should tell each other they love each other!

And more than anything thanks to Paul Harvey... FARMERS ROCK!!!!

The good old moldy days.....

An open letter to my fellow Americans....

Ahhh! The good old days when, Milk was delivered to your door, The newspaper was as well. Remember when we played outside and then there were only were 3 channels on the t.v. ETC, ETC...

This blog isn't about any of that stuff!

Over the past 18 months or so I have noticed a trend. As a Stay at home dad I have the ability to go food shopping on a regular basis. Now with that said; is it me but, has anyone else noticed that not only is everything substantially more expensive then just a few years ago, or Is it me but, has anyone else noticed that even store brand or generic items are even more expensive than they used to be?!?!?

Which begs the question what gives? Why? When did this start happening? Now we can blame the government, which I am never averse to doing but, I actually think there is much more to it. For example; has anyone noticed how many products have a generic twin item right next to it on the shelf?  How about when there are several generic items next to the name brand stuff!!  Example; Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, and right next to that the store brand "Frosty Flakes" followed by Malt o Meal "Sugar frosting flakes!" I could go on with myriad different products but, I think you get the picture.

It isn't just the expensive pricing I've noticed there is an even more disturbing trend to me that seems to be going unnoticed maybe not unnoticed but, not being mentioned and that is the quality of said items.
I am talking about freshness! Does anyone remember freshness? Because quite frankly I don't!
The last 3 times I have purchased bread, white sandwich bread, I have gotten either an already stale loaf of bread or one so close that it was stale a full 2 days later.

Now keep in mind in my younger days I held several jobs in grocery stores or convenience stores where we had to rotate stock putting the older items up front and the fresher items towards the back. So I know how to read dates as well so please don't make snide comments as to checking dates because part of this disturbing trend is that the dates are within normal freshness dates yet and still when the item is opened it is already all but stale.  I have also gotten a loaf home and not only was it close to stale but, completely stale and moldy within a few days!!!!

In my normally humble opinion, this is not only a disturbing trend but, one that I think isn't going to
change anytime soon.

And here is why;

Now buying bread is pretty much a necessity, the bread companies and there a few, have to compete with the big bread companies ie; Wonder bread etc... Now if you go and buy a name brand loaf of sandwich bread it is gonna run you about 2.50 to 3.50 on average. Then there are the generic brands or store brands that sell for about half of that. The store brands are able to mark down breads, milks and the other necessities to almost half the price of name brand items because of the old adage that you are in the store and you're going to buy more items that aren't generic therefore those items will have a better markup and then everyone can make more money ie the store, the brand etc.....

My problem isn't the competitive pricing aspect of any of this it is the freshness or the quality of the items like bread. You see I have done some quasi research on this bread thing. I have purchased several different brands of breads over the last few months. Name brand, generic and the like. What I have found is that they are all stale or at least very close to it when first purchased!  Not only did I do this project in one grocery store I have done it in several different stores from large grocery chains to local grocery chains and even local convenience stores and without fail all of the bread has had the same problem each and every time!!!!
Am I missing something?! The "Main Stream Media" isn't covering this because I imagine that bread isn't sexy?
Not to mention the inflation aspect of this whole thing that isn't even being remotely addressed by the media! I mean anyone can go and get a loaf of generic bread for about a buck but, will it be any good in a couple of days or will you have to go out and buy another loaf in 3 days even though you still have some of the original purchase left but, no one will eat eat it because it's old or worse yet you had to toss it because it was moldy!
I mean what gives!?!!  I mean what are we supposed to do complain the pimply faced store manager who has barely gotten through puberty as of yet. "Umm sir, I bought this loaf of bread 2 days ago and it's already stale can I have my money back?" Or more than likely you don't say anything to anyone and go out and buy another loaf in the hopes that this one will last longer. I mean when does it end? Does anyone care? Not just the retail level or manufacturing level? How about us? Do any of us really care? And why not? I mean we're being gouged on so many other items that we are essentially being gouged on a necessity like bread?!?  Whats next milk, eggs? etc..etc... When does it end? When does someone say or do something? Or are we really like sheep and just built to follow? I haven't, nor will I even begin to address the price of gas in this blog. Is that where all of this started? Was it the price of fuel? Have we been asleep at the wheel here? Or have we just chosen to play by the rules as they are, for lack of a better term, accepting the status quo?

It isn't just bread.  I mean we as Americans were brought up to fight for our rights; weren't we? Something should be done about this. But, by who or whom?

Please bear in mind I am not just talking about bread here. I guess bread is just colloquialism
for the real disservice being done to us Americans. We are being gouged and if there was a worse time for us to be gouged for anything I don't believe now would be it.  In a time when we are experiencing unemployment numbers that none of us has ever seen before. Now would not be the time to just blindly accept the status quo. AGAIN PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT BREAD!!!!! It is about the fact that while we have a million other things to worry about the prices we pay at the grocery store or the gas station should not be something we just ACCEPT!!!

All of us Americans sit idly by while we are steadily gouged if for no other reason than to make the big corporations richer? I have no problem with a corporation making money. But, not at the risk of doing it unfairly. Keep in mind it isn't just the big corporations it is all of the companies.
We pay dearly as they compete against one another for our "bread" purchases. They will do anything in order to beat their competitors for our "bread" purchases including but, not limited to no quality control of said "bread."

It's time to take a stand America! Take a stand against gouging but, not against the corporations. Take a stand against your neighbors who are more than willing to stand by and be gouged by whoever wants to screw with us!
The way to take a stand is to start to Educate your friends, neighbors, family etc... tell them all.

I implore you all to take notice next time you buy a loaf of bread. Is it fresh? Does it stay fresh for a normal amount of time?
Remember it doesn't matter what brand you purchase, just check it out and see it for yourself. See if I don't have a valid point here.

Just educate yourselves and realize that while we continue to go broke, is it only our fault! Are we the only ones to blame? Will you continue to sit by idly and follow along like sheep?

Because in my opinion, that's just, BAAAAD!

Lucky number '13. 13 goals for 2013.
